Phyto-Sanitary Certificates certify that plants are free from insects and disease. Phyto-Sanitary Certificates are required for foreign orders. Please check with your local Agriculture Dept. for your current requirements, Import Permit may be required. Import Permits that require a 5 minute chemical dip will incur an additional $100.00 fee. Quarantine Compliance Certificate required for Hawaii and Puerto Rico. Taiwan orders, add $50.00 to posted Phytosanitary Certificate rates.

Our Agricultural Commissioner has recently raised the price of the Phyto-Sanitary Certificate. These are required by almost all foreign countries. They base their price on travel time to and from the nursery (1.5 hours) and the time it takes to inspect and write the document. To offset the increase in Phyto cost, we recommend that you increase the size of your orders. Orders under $400.00 (plant total before shipping and phyto) are no longer cost effective and cannot be accepted. We truly regret this change but have no other choice. Any orders that require agricultural inspection can take up to 7 days to ship.

Phytosanitary Certificate Rates – Effective 01-08-18
$400 – $600 = $200.00
$600 – $1000 = $230.00
$1000 – $2000 = $290.00
$2000 – $3500 = $352.00

$5000 and over

Taiwan Phyto Rates – Effective 05-01-21

Winter Shipping Guidelines (Domestic Shipping Only)

We are now using Uniheat 72 hour heat packs. These will be used in lieu of our previous winter shipping guidelines to help keep your shipping cost down while still allowing us to ship into colder weather areas.

If your night time low is 25 degrees Fahrenheit or above, we can ship normally. If your night time low is 0-25 degrees Fahrenheit, we will ship UPS 2nd day air using 1 heat pack per box. The total quantity of heat packs we use will be added to your invoice.

2nd day air orders will be shipped Monday-Wednesday only to avoid cold weather conditions over the weekend. You still have the option of UPS next day air for Thursday shipments. Although Uniheat heat packs have a high success rate, they are not a guarantee. All plants travel at customers’ risk. Heat packs have a cost of $3.00 per pack (quantity discounts do not apply).

**Both UPS and U.S.P.S. charge dimensional weight. This means that the package is measured by volume and not weight, i.e. an 8 pound box might be charged 18 pounds because of its dimensions. The percentages quoted for shipping on our web site give you an idea what shipping will cost. They are not firm quotes on shipping. If you order larger plants or plants sold by weight the shipping charges may be higher than the quoted percentages. Give yourself plenty of time. Waiting till the last moment to ship will cost you more in shipping costs. Example: You live in Oregon, It is Monday and you need the plants by Thursday. No problem, use ground service and get your plants Wednesday or Thursday. Need the plant on Tuesday? It will cost you big bucks. The ground service may cost $14.00, the next day service may be $80.00.

Explanation of Plants in Bud

Low bud, high bud no bud…
Tillandsias are in a constant state of growth.  In the late spring and summer this growth is accelerated.  Some species can finish blooming in a week.  The plants continue to grow in the box when shipped.  We are consistently asked to ship plants that arrive in low bud.  Most of the time it is just not possible.  Keep in mind that there are no other tillandsia growers that even offer plants on a bloom list.  We do the best we can.  If you are concerned about plants ” blooming out” before you sell them, then I suggest that you order plants with no bud and wait for them to bloom.  Thanks for your understanding.

Various sizes different times of the year…this again goes back to plants being in a constant state of flux.

My plants did not look as good as the last ones…again keep in mind that they are all individuals and look different based on whether or not our shade cloth is up or what level of our growing area they reside.

My plants looked dry.  Tillandias are sensitive to over watering.  They need to dry out between waterings.  In the summer the outside air temperature at the nursery can reach 100-108 F at 20% humidity.

The plants lose water traveling in these conditions.  Plants ordered in the warm months should be soaked on arrival then given enough time to rehydrate.  Keep in mind that they should not remain wet for much more than 4 hours or they may suffocate and die.

Our night temperatures are getting below freezing.  Is it safe to ship?  The box and the UPS truck offer some protection against the cold.  We recommend shipping the plants when lows are 22 f or higher.  We have not had any problems except when UPS has mishandled the plants less than 1% of the time.
